Halloween

Halloween was a lot of fun for me this year. I think it is because I finally have a child old enough to be excited for the holiday. I stopped trick-or-treating around the age of 12, and since then, Halloween hasn't been that exciting. I was never allowed to dress up for school growing up, and if you combine that with my need for social acceptance as I got older, Halloween costumes became non-existent. I had a couple of years in college where I got into it a little bit and had some fun, but that was about it. Moving forward to the first few years of our marriage, we didn't really have any Halloween parties to attend, so we just passed out candy and pretended that Summer wanted to go trick-or-treating. Granted, last year she enjoyed it, but Ellen had been born just three days before, so I wasn't really into celebrating the Halloween. So now that Summer was excited for Halloween way before the actual day and I was excited for her, we had a great time.

Summer started her festivities with a Halloween day at preschool and then one at Cherubs. Friday night the rest of us joined in with a family party at my sisters house. We attended as Goldilocks and the three bears. Aren't we cute? That evening consisted of bubbling punch, brain jello, graveyard pudding dessert, and a chili dinner. We also had some games for the kids, including a cake walk. We stayed late, had a great time, and began eating our large quantities of  sugar for the weekend.

Saturday day was a pretty typical day. Anders & Ellen caught my cold, so they stayed home while Summer & I ran some errands, had naps, and recovered from our late night. Dinner was homemade pizza and Nisha stopped by for a little while to bring us all our own Halloween treats. About 6 pm we headed out into the & neighborhood for trick-or-treating. Anders and Ellen were both ready to leave the house and were feeling pretty good at that time, so we all ventured out together. Summer caught on quite quickly that she got candy at every house. She was quite excited and would have gone all night. We spent about 45 minutes going through the neighborhood before heading home. I knew it was time to come home when Summer started telling me her bucket was too heavy and asked me to carry it. She was quite content with her little pile and promptly began to eat it when we got home. She ate her way through a bunch of it last night and a bunch more today. Overall, I'd say Halloween was a success!
