Prayers

Summer has begun to say her own prayers-and it is pretty funny. She has meal time prayers figured out. They usually go something like this:

"Heavenly Father, thankful food, bless food, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen." Not bad, really.

Family prayer is a different story. She starts them out great and can usually end ok (with a little prodding from one of us), but the middle is quite the mix. She's not too keen on us helping her, and so anything we prompt her to say usually gets ignored, so for the most part, she's saying what she wants to. I am all for kids praying about what comes from their heart, but it sure does make me laugh. She talks quietly when she does pray, so we don't catch everything, but what we do is pretty entertaining. Last nights family prayer went something like this:

"Heavenly Father....breakfast...lunch...snack....Christmas bears (these are teddy grahams) ...pretzels ...strawberries... Name of Jesus Christ, Amen."

Apparently listing off some of the food she had during the day is what she thinks a prayer should be comprised of. Most every prayer is very similar. Every once in a while something else will appear in the prayer (last week we had a "bless Daddy"), but it's rare.

Apparently, we like food at our house.

On another note, a few days ago Summer said "I love you" to me for the first time. Talk about melting my heart. I guess that's why I'm a mom.
