18 Months
I can't believe my baby is 18 months old. I'm pretty sure I say that every time I do a blog post with an age update, but it's true every time. I feel like my baby is gone and we are full swing into the toddler stage. Within just the last few weeks, Summer has really started to exert her independence and opinions.
Here are a few developmental and personality updates:
1. Summer loves to read books. She will bring me a stack of books and we will sit down and read through all of them, and then read through them again. And again. She has already developed a preference for some books-there are certain ones she never wants to read and others that she always picks out.
2. The tantrums have begun. The flopping on the floor, screaming at the top of her lungs kind of tantrums. If I leave the room while she is in the middle of one, she'll stop, follow me into the next room, and begin again.
3. She still loves music and loves to dance.
4. She has learned how to color, which included coloring on my couch the other day. We are now learning to keep pens up high at our house.
5. She has become picky when in comes to food. She would happily survive off of PB&J sandwiches, Goldfish crackers, and milk if I let her.
6. She has become a great little runner. She is quick and quite efficient and loves to do it. I have to work to keep up with her. She also will no longer stay near me when we go places. She has discovered there is a much bigger world when she moves further than the allotted 10 feet away from me.
7. Summer loves the great outdoors. We like to go on walks or spend time in the backyard-so we are all so glad that spring is here! She often will collect as many rocks as she can when we are out, handing them to me as soon as her little hands are full.
8. She is big into putting objects in containers and then pulling them out. She spends a lot of time "helping" me sort items.
9. Summer has begun talking. We expect her to wake up any day now talking in complete, complex sentences, but until then, here are her first words: no (she's really good at this one), hi, bye, ok, more, milk, dog (all animals are dogs), and if we're really lucky we can get her to say mom or dad.
Finally, here are a few pictures that we took at the park the other day. They are her 18 month pictures, even though she is actually now 19 months. Between bad weather and sickness, we didn't make it any earlier. My favorite is the compilation of 5 photos where Summer is running. I think it shows the eagerness and joy of a child in such a simple way-running through the park.
