So What's New?

About a month ago my sister-in-law Nisha (who we see all the time) asked "So what's new?" Anders' reply was "Nothing much- we're just having a baby in August, Stephanie finished teaching, and I graduated from college." Although Nisha and I both knew about all these changes, we both thought it was pretty funny the way Anders put it. Since it has been months since my last post, I realize that some of this information is probably "new" for a lot of people, so I thought I'd expand.

New Item #1: Baby Lyman

Yep, we're expecting a baby. It's a girl (or at least that's what they tell us-and at this point she better be. If she comes out a boy, he'll be clothed in lots of frilly, pink stuff). She's due August 16th and we couldn't be more excited! The beginning of my pregnancy was a little rough, I learned what all-day-morning-sickness means. Combine that with the normal fatigue of pregnancy and teaching, and the lack of blog posts can be explained. The worst of the nausea disappeared around 20-22 weeks and I have been doing much better since then. I know I am not as lucky as some women who don't have much of a problem with it, but I am very grateful that I was not worse than I was. No trips to the hospital, no IV's, and it didn't last though my entire pregnancy. We're in the process of getting ready for her arrival-we now own a car seat and we've hit some awesome garage sales, so we've got a good start on a wardrobe for her. Also, for those of you who have requested a baby bump picture, here is a picture of me (taken this afternoon) at 32 weeks.

New Item #2: End of Teaching

With the expectancy of our new arrival, I have quit my job as a teacher. I decided years ago that I would be a stay at home mom if I had that option (and I am so grateful I have that option), which made my decision to quit a lot easier. It has still been really hard for me, but I know that we have made the right decision for our family. I have loved my job as a teacher and know that I have done a lot of good as a teacher, but I also know that I will accomplish even more good as a mom. There is no way that I could do both well. It is time for a new phase of my life and I am looking forward to it. It is time to enter the world of Momhood.

New Item #3: Graduation

Anders is a college graduate! Yea! Since we have been married, he has been working full time and going to school full time as well. He has been taking classes online through Grantham University and finished up the end of May with a degree in Computer Science. Luckily for us, Anders classes were pretty easy for him. He already works in his field, so the information covered in his classes is stuff he has already learned, making the amount of time spent studying very minimal. However, the one problem with taking classes online is that there is no actual graduation for finishing (unless we decided to take a trip to Kansas), so we have no pictures of Anders in a goofy hat and gown. I know he doesn't really care, but I am tempted to make him dress up in my old cap and gown.... Needless to say, we are glad to be done with the schooling part of our lives. We hope to never return ourselves. I'm proud of you Anders!

So what's new? A whole bunch of stuff, although nothing major has seemed to change yet. I normally am off work this time of the year and baby girl Lyman has yet to make her entrance. Two months from now I am sure I will have a very different story to tell though....

  2. What a cute baby bump! I am so excited for my first niece on my side of the family! Congratulations again to Anders. And I am totally there with you about no more school ever, for either husband or wife. It's a good feeling to be done! I am so, so glad you made that choice about being a SAHM because I know from my own experience how rewarding it is, even though it's hard sometimes. I couldn't do an outside job and Mommyhood both well either, so it's nice to be able to just focus on what's really the most important. Thanks for the update!

  4. Hi Steph,

It's me again. I hope you are feeling well. You are probably due anytime now--aren't you about 37 weeks or so?

We made it back to the US, and we are loving it!! France shmance...

I met with Garrick, and he told me to get something from you for this next school year. We called your CO number, but we couldn't get through. He wanted you to email me the tests and quizzes you used last year. I know they are probably similar to the ones you and I used when we taught together, but he said you made some changes, and he wanted me to have the most updated versions. COuld you please send me those? (My email is gifinadolls@yahoo.com)

Also, I am trying to locate a few things I lent you when I left, such as the large number demo (with a million "I"s), and the reproduction lab with all the color copies. Do you just leave the things behind in your old classroom? If you want, you can call me at 801-369-5204.

I hope you are doing ok!!

    Talk soon,
    Tiffany
