Elder Rasband

Elder Rasband of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints came to our Stake today for a special stake conference. We were informed about a month ago that it would be occurring. Apparently he spent yesterday in meetings with some stake presidents and just chose our stake to come to today. He spoke for about 45 minutes and there were a few things that really had an impact on my that I'd like to remember.

The first was that he said if President Monson were here today, he would say two things. The first would be that "I love you" and the second would be "thank you." These are things that I have heard President Monson today, but for whatever reason, today the Spirit bore testimony to me so strongly that this is true. President Monson, a representative of the Savior, loves each of us so much and is so grateful for the things that we do to serve and love others.

The rest of Elder Rasband's talk was about families. Here are a few random points from his talk that I'd like to remember:

1. The temple was an important structure in his family. It is something that they have reminders up in their home about and their kids knew the importance of it.

2. He talked about how we need to make our homes a fortress against Satan. He talked about how his son came to him one day for help because he had seen some pornography on the computer in their house. He said that if Satan can make his way into his home, the home of a general authority, he can make it into anyone's home. We need to be constantly vigilant in protecting our homes and keeping them a secure fortress.

3. He talked about how the older he gets, the more he realizes that the most important thing to him is is how his children turn out. We are all doing our best and the Lord will help us.

4. He also told a story about when he was made a mission president when they had 4 kids who were still at home. He talked about how his calling to be a mission president became a family calling. It wasn't just his, it was the families calling and they did it together. Also, family is always the priority-over all callings and assignments in the church.
