Christmas

We had a lovely Christmas this year. We spent Christmas Eve at Matt & Rosemary's. We went sledding in their backyard, played games, and ate pizza with a bunch of the Lyman's. It was late by the time we got home and Summer was too tired to care about anything. I had some new pajamas for her to wear and it was too much for her to even consider it and she fell asleep on the floor in the living room before we had a chance to do anything else.

Christmas morning was a lot of fun. It was the first time that we had a child that was truly excited for Christmas. All Summer wanted was a purple turtle from Santa, so Santa delivered. Santa brought a few other gifts and it was so fun to see Summer's eyes light up with seeing everything that was brought. Ellen wasn't overly excited about the whole Christmas thing. I got her to help open a few gifts, but that was all she would do. She spent the rest of the time eating her Honey Nut Cheerios from Santa and climbing into the little rocking chair, which she figured out how to do that morning. She was quite pleased with herself and quite enjoyed rocking away while the rest of us opened gifts.

We had the traditional Griggs family breakfast casserol and lazed away the morning. We were supposed to head to Grandma Lyman's house in the afternoon for sandwiches, but since we had a good 7-8 inches of new snow (with up to 18 inches in places on the driveway) and Anders was feeling a little under the weather, we decided to stay home. We threw together our own simple Christmas dinner, complete with ham & potatoes. We also did a "special family home evening" that night as we told the Christmas story and let Summer act out the part of Mary. Ellen and I performed most of the other parts.

Overall, it was a lovely day. I'm grateful for the birth of our Savior and the celebration we have in honor of Him.

The Sunday before Christmas. Not bad for a last minute, self timed photo.

Summer checking out her stocking. Notice the purple turtle on the floor by her knees. I wish I would have gotten a photo of her holding the turtle.

Santa also brought a cool, princess tent.

Christmas morning.

I got an awesome DIY Ugly Sweater Kit from my brother Mike and his wife, Tamara. Pretty cool, huh?

These are a few photos I took prior to Christmas morning.

  1. Looks like you really had a great Christmas. I especially love that pic of the girls in the rocking chair! You should frame it; it's beautiful.
