Fun Summer Day

A couple of times a year, the company Anders works for takes all the employees to go do something fun for work instead of actually doing work. One year they all went up and did the Alpine Slide, ate good food, and probably did something else that I don't remember. Anyway, today was one of those days and he wasn't really interested in participating in the activity, so he opted to stay home with Summer and I instead. My husband is pretty awesome. He could have gone to work and had fun with his coworkers, but decided to stay home and be with us. We decided to take advantage of having him home all day and we kept him busy.

We started the day with a "hike" around Silver Lake up Big Cottonwood Canyon. On our way up, Summer started to get bored, so I handed her a granola bar still in it's packaging. I figured it would be something that would keep her busy for a while and that she couldn't get into. After a couple of minutes of playing with it, we could hear random excited squeals and laughter coming from her, so we thought it was a great "toy" choice on my part. When we arrived at our destination, I went to pull her out of her car seat and found a mangled granola bar (still in it's packaging) and chocolate on her face. Turns out she punctured some small holes in the packaging and was able to get a few tastes of the granola bar (including the chocolate), which explained her excitement earlier. I decided she must be my child...

Anyway, the lake has a boardwalk and trails that we could take the stroller on, so we took advantage of that. It was a beautiful day, so we took our time walking around the lake. We stopped at one little dock and ended up feeding the ducks Summer's little whole grain cereal. They enjoyed it and so did she, so I don't think she minded sharing.

We came home long enough to eat lunch and then took a trip to the local swimming pool for an afternoon dip. We have a cool facility with an indoor/outdoor pool, which is great with a baby. The water was a perfect temperature, we didn't have to worry about sunscreen, there is a zero-entry section, and there is a baby pool area as well (not to mention the slides, sprayers, and lazy pool which will be fun with older kids). Summer enjoyed herself, and spent a lot of time just watching what was going on. It was nice of Anders to appease my desire to take her swimming and we had a lot of fun. She has been once before, but it was under less than ideal conditions and I've been wanting to take her again to see if she would like it. Overall, it was a successful trip and one that I am sure will be much more loved next summer.

We had a good evening with homemade hamburgers for dinner (a summertime favorite) and a relaxing evening watching one of our favorite shows. Really, it was a pretty awesome day. Nothing overly uncommon (except Anders was home on a Monday) or extreme, just a good family day.

  1. So I am hoping that since we look so much alike...that my babies will be as cute as yours...we can only hope. I guess I cant really marry an ugly husband or that might ruin my chances haha.
